Marcellus Shale job growth

In previous posts on the Marcellus Shale, I have discussed why we in WV are not seeing the new jobs touted by corporations and government officials.  Now there is a new issue to worry about in the region.  As reported by the Wheeling Intelligencer, Consol energy is closing a mine in Washington, P.A. because it is no longer produces the income that gas mining can.  What this really means is that while coal mining is and can remain profitable, we at Consol energy can make millions more by hiring a couple of guys to drill gas wells instead of paying hundreds of men to mine coal. This just demonstrates again how the Marcellus Shale drilling is NOT aiding the economy of the region and instead killing well paid jobs.  The states of the Marcellus Shale region need to work together and profit from this industry.  I extremely distrustful of these corporations but they are going to come here whether I like it or not.  Therefore we need to figure out to use this increased activity in our region to grow rather than stagnate.
